Cold Rolled Coils

CRC-Cold Rolled Coil

Cold-rolled coils are steel products manufactured by taking hot-rolled coils as raw material and reducing their thickness through rolling at room temperature (below the recrystallization temperature), subsequently coiling the resulting material. They serve as a fundamental intermediate product within the steel deep-processing supply chain.

Product overview

They serve as a fundamental intermediate product within the steel deep-processing supply chain.

Core Processes and Status Differentiation
The production process typically follows this sequence: hot-rolled coil → pickling (to remove oxide scale) → cold rolling → coiling. Since no heating occurs during the rolling process, the product surface is free from the iron oxide scale commonly found on hot-rolled coils; consequently, its surface quality and dimensional accuracy are generally superior to those of hot-rolled coils.

There are two types of post-processing conditions:
Full-hard coil: A product that is coiled directly after cold rolling without undergoing annealing. Due to work hardening, it exhibits high hardness (HRB > 90) and poor plasticity, making it suitable only for simple deformation processing.

Annealed cold-rolled coil: A full-hard coil that has undergone an annealing process, which eliminates work hardening and internal stress while restoring plasticity. This is the standard delivery condition, facilitating subsequent stamping and forming operations.

Common Specifications and Applications

Cold-rolled coils typically have a thickness ranging from 0.2 mm to 4 mm and a width between approximately 600 mm and 2000 mm. They are widely used in sectors such as automotive manufacturing, home appliance casings, and precision instruments; they also frequently serve as the substrate for galvanized coils, galvalume (aluminum-zinc coated) coils, and color-coated coils.
